Wat Temples & Buddhas

Still on the theme of my trip to Bangkok in November 2012, I thought I would share some photos of temples, Buddhas and experiences I had while there. Some of you might find the spiritual aspects interesting, while others might be in awe of the splendour, size and lavishness of the actual Buddhas.

My first temple on this trip was Sukhothai Traimit. (Oh, forgot to say that Wat is the word for temple. So whenever you see the word Wat, simply substitute Temple and you’ll get the idea.) This temple houses the Golden Buddha and for me it is the most beautiful Buddha of all.

This Buddha was created in the 1300’s and during that century there was much looting of temples and destruction of Buddha’s so the wise monks covered the Buddha in extremely thick plaster which made it appear worthless. Surprisingly it stayed like that for centuries and was only discovered to be solid gold inside, only 57 years ago! At that time, the original Choti-naram Temple or Wat Phrayakrai in the Yannawa District was deserted and a company applied for an extension of its operations in the land area of the deserted temple.  Machinery was brought in to lift the plaster Buddha to its new home. Imagine being the driver and thinking you’ve wrecked this ancient Buddha when a piece cracks off, only to realise that without you the Golden Buddha Image would still be hidden!

This Golden Buddha is immense and being in its presence is amazing, well, I can only speak for myself. It is SOLID Gold and estimated worth is something like $30million pounds. It is 12’ 5” in diameter, has a height of 15’ 9” from the base to the crown and weighs approximately 5.5 ton. Inspiring and touching, in all respects of these words.

It really is divine, absolutely awesome in the true sense of the word. I sat and meditated here although there were lots of people moving around. This Buddha is the one that really sets my heart chakra dancing and expands my heart centre with a real buzz.

Interesting point, it is considered very rude to point your feet towards a Buddha so you sit cross-legged or point your feet away from them.

When I meditate or contemplate in the presence of these centuries old Buddhas, it is the place where I listen and easily hear clear answers to my questions.

I asked the question, “why do I feel the energy of my heart and connection with Buddha so clearly here?” and was told (heard) because over the centuries the energy field has built up enormously through the love and devotion poured into the Buddha and that this pours out to those willing to receive it.

Please comment if you have enjoyed a similar experience.

I’ve also experienced my heart chakra filling with love and opening at home, in front of a painting, and walking through an aquarium, for example, so once I knew how to look and feel and receive, I have always been able to feel God’s presence without the need for a church or Temple for that matter.

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed my trip.

Let me know if you are interested in taking a Spiritual Retreat in Ayutthaya the old city of Bangkok.

Ayutthaya is full of Temples and Buddhas, on mostly flat ground so a bicycle is marvellous for getting around.  The day I went to Ayutthaya a World Peace Meditation was in progress and was held over the full week with many meditations and gatherings.

I had a blast that day, going by train, and then hiring my bike, and riding round for hours, getting off and on to wander through 600 year old ruins and visit Temples and Buddhas. There is a marvellous market and an Elephant Camp too.  I think you might like those photos where I had some romance in my life! Glorious fun!
